AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. |
Subject: What are ghosts? |
Bible Note: ariel, First a couple of verses. Matthew 22:30 "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven." Hebrews 13:2 "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." Matthew 17:3-4 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.4 Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." There is no mention here of Moses and Elijah's appearance but because Peter recommended he build shelters for them and because of the first two verses above I suspect they looked like they did when they walked on earth. 1 Samuel 28:13 The king said to her, "Don't be afraid. What do you see?" The woman said, "I see a spirit [a] coming up out of the ground." 14 "What does he look like?" he asked. "An old man wearing a robe is coming up," she said. Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. 15 Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" This quote is from the NIV which calls Samuel a spirit, the NASB calls Samuel a divine being, and the KJV calls Samuel gods. Which is it, God only knows but he looked like an old man in a robe not a "ghost". We also know it was Samuel because verse 15 says so. Ok lets recognize God, our creator, is in control. We know from the verses above that we have his spiritual beings among us and they look just like people (or are invisible like the Holy Spirit). Do you know of any scripture in which God warns us that evil spiritual beings or demons can present themselves in a visible form? I don't and therefore my personal conviction is that demons can only enter into a living person or animal as described in the Bible. In which case they do not appear as "ghosts". |
