NASB | Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. |
Bible Question:
My husband and I are both saved and have been going to church together since we gave our life to Christ. When we moved back to our home town, he had been out of fellowhsip with the Lord, he found out he was called to the ministry and started running and Jonah did when God called him. Well he is back in church now but not with me, he goes to church with his family (mother, grandmother, etc.) In the beginning that really bothered me and now it does not bother me anymore. There is an good, acceptable and perfect will of God and I believe that it is Gods perfect will that couples should be together in church. Gen 2:24 says then you are one flesh, I see that as one in the home, spirit and in church. I hope noone gets offended at what i'm saying but that is what I believe. Not saying where he is going is bad, but I know where God wants me and my family and I know that my husband should be with me. Do anyone have any comments on marriage in the church? |
Bible Answer: Does the Bible teach a doctrine of the "permissive will" of God? NASB Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. AMPLIFIED Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. All my life I have heard the phrase the "permissive will" of God. Many believe that there is such a thing. But is that what the Bible actually teaches? It is not my intention to offend or criticize anyone when I say: Nowhere in Scripture do I find any mention of a "permissive will" of God. You will not find the words "permissive will" in Romans 12:2 Notice that Romans 12:2 says, "...so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." What it says here is "good AND acceptable AND perfect." It does not say good OR acceptable OR perfect. Therefore, we must not interpet this verse to mean that there are 3 wills of God: 1) the good; OR 2) the acceptable; OR 3) the perfect. This verse speaks of ONE will of God: "that which is good and acceptable and perfect." ONE will, not two and not three. Likewise, there is but one sacrifice of our bodies, not three. Romans 12:1 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. If one could interpret Romans 12:2 to mean there is a choice, i.e. the good or the acceptable or the perfect will of God, then one could apply the same logic to 12:1. One would have to say that there is a choice here -- that we may choose whether to present our bodies: - a living sacrifice; or - a holy sacrifice; or - an acceptable sacrifice. I see no "permissive sacrifice" in verse 1 and no "permissive will" in verse 2. Verse 1 speaks of a sacrifice that is living AND holy AND acceptable. Verse 2 speaks of ONE will of God: "that which is good AND acceptable AND perfect." |
