NASB | Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. |
Bible Question: As I try to depend completely on Jesus Christ to direct my life I get confused between waiting on the Lord and being afraid to act because it might be my will and not His. How can I know when taking action is His will, not my intervention? |
Bible Answer: This is where Romans 12:1 and 2 come in : Rom 12:1 I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. note especially the second half of the last verse. Like the psalmist said :"Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee." We have the promise of God which we can lay hold on to : Ps 32:8 I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Ps 32:9 Be not like the horse or the mule, which lack understanding, which must have their mouths held firm with bit and bridle, or else they will not come with you. |
