I understand "that which is not a Nation" refers to the Gentiles. But, who is the "Nation without understanding" that angered Israel? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Jim... Paul is quoting Deuteronomy 32:21. The word nation, or people, is the Greek word ethnoi. In the OT the word is goyim, which is the Hebrew word for foreign nations; i.e., Gentiles. The term applies to any and all non-Jews. In Jewish thinking the Gentiles are like little children -- without the positive connotation -- like a herd without a leader, a great ignorant mass.
