NASB | Romans 1:7 ¶ to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 1:7 ¶ [I am writing] to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called to be saints (God's people) and set apart for a sanctified life, [that is, set apart for God and His purpose]: Grace to you and peace [inner calm and spiritual well-being] from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Bible Question: According to Romans 1:7 and Philippians 1:1, why are Christians called 'saints'? |
Bible Answer: I remember having that title being clarified for me by a speaker on one of the radio ministries I listen to. He said that the word saint has it's root in the word sanctification. I understand that to be the process every believer enters to be "set apart; consecrated; made holy for God. Smith's Bible Dictionary states that the first disciples were known as saints (Gr.Nagios, a holy one). I regularly greet the members of my local church body with the greeting "Praise the Lord Saints". I believe it encourages us to remember our new identity in Christ and keeps us on our P's and Q's in terms of our response to others. |
