NASB | Romans 1:27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 1:27 and in the same way also the men turned away from the natural function of the woman and were consumed with their desire toward one another, men with men committing shameful acts and in return receiving in their own bodies the inevitable and appropriate penalty for their wrongdoing. |
Bible Question: Why do people use leviticus 18:22 to condemn homosexuals when Jesus was the end of that law...hence we can now eat pork and shrimp, wear clothes of 2 fabrics, and have sexual relations with our wives even during her period? Why is there a requirement to turn from homosexuality if the law is no longer valid, then is it still a sin? No other scripture condemns homosexuality, scripture only condemns specific homosexual behaviors (rape, temple prostitution, child molestation, etc). The bible is silent on monogamous homosexual relationships? |
Bible Answer: Even if your assertion were true, and that the OT Law were no longer valid, there are many other NT Scriptures that tell us God's view of same-sex physical relationships. It is flat out wrong all through the Bible. The the truth is, the Law has never ceased to express God's values, and what He decrees to be righteous. The dietary laws you mentioned were given as a means to separate Israel from the nations, for instance. God still wants us separated from the world. But the people who have told you that the Bible does not condemn same-sex physical relationships of such a nature have lied to you. Rom 1:27 And likewise, the males also forsaking the natural use of the female burned in their lust toward one another, males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving back within themselves the reward which was fitting for their error. This Scripture declares that same sex physical relationships are shameful, and against nature. Even the desire is wrong (Same-Sex Attraction Disorder, or SSAD). Jesus said: Matthew 19:4-6 (4) But answering, He said to them, Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning "created them male and female"? Gen. 1:27 (5) And He said, "For this reason a man shall leave father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." Gen. 2:24 (6) So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate. There was never a provision for same-sex "marraige". And Strict prohibitions are written in the New and Old Testaments. The NT refers to such as "those who abuse themselves with mankind." Does that sound kosher to you? In Leviticus it is called an abomination. That's not just the Bible calling something really really bad. It's the Bible catagorizing it as a type of a sin. Moses refered to the children of Israel "sacrificing the abomination of Egypt", because they were to sacrifice cows. It wasn't that the Egyptians hated cows. They worshipped cows. The cow god was one of their idols. And that's the point. Same sex relationships are a form of idolatry. God established man-woman marraige, with an agenda. There is something both the man and woman are meant to take away from marraige (See Eph. 5). SSAD short circuits God's plan, attempting to receive only the material goodies without any cost, and without getting the actual spiritual enrichment that only comes through committed, lifelong, monogomous opposite-sex relationships. But hey, don't think I am singling out SSAD's. God doesn't. For ALL have sinned, in one way or another, and fallen short of God's glory. And unless ALL repent, ALL will likewise die in their sins. If you are living to serve yourself, no matter what flavor, you are dead while you live. But if you will lose your life for Jesus' sake, then you will find it. Love in Christ, Mark |
