Subject: Are habitual sinners still Christians? |
Bible Note: My answer to your question is far better than common sense which, by the way, is not so common :-). You requested no biblical verses, yet I submit to you that God's answers to our most troubling questions vastly over-shadow what the best and brightest of men can offer. I assure you on the authority of God's word that there is no temptation -- not the temptation to abuse strong drink or to engage in sinful sexual acts, or to allow one's pride to rule over one's life -- there is no temptation that can ever come upon the redeemed child of God that is beyond the pale of God's reach in helpling him to escape it. The Bible says, "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way to escape, that you may be able to bear it." [1 Cor.10:13]. This verse suggests four things: [1] That as a Christian you are not immune to temptation; [2] that God will not allow you to be tempted beyond your ability to handle it; [3] that He will make the way of escape; [4] and that God promises that He will enable you to bear temptation. --Hank |
