Bible Question: What is the purpose of "raising the dead"? It is reportedly done in third world countries but you never hear of it in the United States. Was anyone in the Bible raised from the dead after Christ resurection? |
Bible Answer: Hi Mams, and welcome to the forum! I think the purpose of raising the dead would be to return them to life ;-) Well, now that that's out of my system. . . There are two times that come to mind where the apostles raised the dead after Jesus' resurrection: Act 9:40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. Act 20:9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. 10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted. Jesus performed His miracles to validate He teaching, as proof of His Messiah-ship. This is why He waited as Lazarus died, so that He could raise him from the dead, that His disciples would believe. John 11:15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. John 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. Works are the authenticating stamp of the true man or woman of God. The kind of works are based on the ministry God wants each of us to do, because we can only do what He does through us. The apostles did many miracles, to validate their teaching. I don't do many (any) miracles because my ministry is primarily towards those who already beleive. Perhaps God is performing miracles through the missionary in the jungle, because the people there don't already know that the Bible is true, and Jesus is real, and so God wants to get their attention. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
