NASB | Acts 9:17 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 9:17 So Ananias left and entered the house, and he laid his hands on Saul and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came [to Damascus], has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit [in order to proclaim Christ to both Jews and Gentiles]." |
Bible Question: Where did Ananias baptize Saul? Was it water baptism or spirit baptism? |
Bible Answer: Hi, blckss396... Welcome to the forum! Our "second blessing" friends will most likely use the contrived ambiguity of the word baptism to assert that it was a subjective experience of Paul in Acts 9:17-18, rather than the objective exercise of the ordinance of Baptism. Given Paul's own teaching on the subject, and the fact that the writer of Acts is Luke, a close companion of the Apostle, a straightforward reading of the verses would tend to support the orthodox interpretation; i.e., that Paul was baptized into the church in the typical fashion. Indeed, this reading is supported traditionally (see the Catholic Encyclopedia on the subject of Baptism). Given the events described in the previous chapter (Acts 8:38) relative to the Ethiopian eunuch, we would not be surprised. In Him, Doc |
