Subject: (p)Power(p)Promise(w)Word(s)Spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi Steve, The NASB has a marginal note for Acts 1:4, [Lit. the promise of the Father]. So I would go with the lower case "promise" with the idea of a promised gift. Personally, I interpret Acts 1:4 with four pronouns of Deity. Here is my interpretation/translation for what it is worth: "And as He assembled together with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father "which you heard from Me"." I compare Acts 1:4, "wait for the promise of the Father" with Acts 8:20, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!" The promise of the Father is the gift of God, to my mind. But more than that, I see the gift of God as being the baptism with the holy spirit [sic]. I believe that Jesus baptized with the holy spirit. From the heart, Ray |
