Bible Note: Greetings Jiner! I'm glad it was helpful! I think the key to the Acts 7 passage is found in v. 17: "As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt greatly increased." The entire speech by Stephen is meant to show that God had a plan for His people. The point of v. 14 is simply that God's people were spared from the great famine because of God's actions with and through Joseph. Of course, the entire speech culminates in Acts 7:51-54: "You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! 52 Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him? 53 you who have received the law that was put into effect through angels but have not obeyed it." Stephen uses the history of Israel to show that God always had a plan for His people, but that His people always resisted and rejected Him. Now, they have rejected the Righteous One by killing Him.
