Bible Question:
What did this couple do that was so wrong? Why weren't they simply exposed and given a chance to repentance? Was the death penalty too sereve for what thye did? Steve Steve |
Bible Answer: Steve: If you read Acts 4:32. It says that ALL the believers were one in heart and mind. That no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. If you look at the heart of the disciples that they sold their homes and gave it to the apostles to distribute to those who were in need. If you continue to read in chapter 5. It exposes the HEART of Ananias and Sapphira. They had LIED to God. They allowed Satan to fill their hearts, they were no longer one in mind and heart with the rest of the body. There are other examples throughout the entire Bible where God destroyed nations (those who opposed and oppressed the Isrealites), people (those who lost heart and no longer followed God...ie the Kings of the OT), GENERATIONS of people (the Flood), cities (Sodom and Gomorrah) because of their SINS. In the same way this couple was destroyed because of their SIN. In a few words or less this couple served as an example that God cannot be mocked, cheated nor lied to. And they were given a chance to repent...they were questioned. Sapphira was asked if that was the price they received for the land....she chose to continue in her lie. I hope this helps. |
