Subject: Accept Jesus? |
Bible Note: Greetings Radioman2! It is not often that I differ with you my friend, but many of the words translated as 'receive' can also be translated as 'accept'. For instance, consider the following passage. John 1:10 - "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name," (NASB) In verse 11, the word 'receive' is 'paralambano' (Strong's 3880). My Greek dictionary lists some of the possible definitions as: take, take along; recieve, accept; learn; take charge of. In verse 12, the word 'receive' is 'lambano'. My Greek dictionary offers these possible translations: take, take hold of; recieve, get, obtain; take away, remove; collect; accept; choose; put on; catch; trap, take advantage of. So, you can see that there really is no 'one' word which conveys all the meanings of these words. 'Accept' or 'receive' would both be acceptable translations of these two words.
