Bible Question: Were does it talk about Paul being chained to a Roman soldier under house arrest? |
Bible Answer: Dear Diane, Welcome to the forum! We do not have an explicit statement in Scripture that Paul was chained to a Roman soldier. We do have it of Peter's arrest (see Acts 12:6). This was a customary practice at the time. We may rightly assume that any reference to Paul's chains while in Roman custody contains a tacit implication of the presence of guards. On the other hand, I have heard whole sermons built out of this insinuation of ancient custodial practices. It is quite likely true, but building a whole lesson with that as its foundation strikes me as less than prudent. In Him, Doc |
