AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 21:21 "Now they have been told about you, that you are teaching all the Jews who are living among the Gentiles to turn away from [the Law of] Moses, advising them not to circumcise their children or to live according to the [Mosaic] customs. |
Bible Question:
Is it legitimate for Jews upon conversion to maintain their Jewish culture? Or did Paul declare that any such attempt is illegitimate from the start? Is there another possibility in what Paul is saying? Steve |
Bible Answer: Steve, I think it is legitimate for Jews to maintain their Jewish culture, just as it is for a Swede to maintain their culture. However, if they are Christian, they must know that it is grace that saves them, and not their laws. The law about not mingling with non-Jews was shown by God to not apply anymore to Peter (Acts 10), and he was also called on the carpet by Paul about eating only Kosher foods when he was with "mixed" company of Jew and Gentile believers. So I do not believe that it is a neccessity. |
