Subject: Purpose of attending church? |
Bible Note: Karen: "Hank, does the verse...support...'eat, drink, and be merry?'" ..... Not really, at least not in the sense and context I used the expression. Fellowship of the saints is a scriptural concept to be sure, but fellowship should not be exalted as being the only, or even the chief, objective of local churches. But in some of them it seems to be treated so; "fellowship" has come to mean mostly a social gathering punctuated by eating and entertainment -- the carnival syndrome -- at the expense of worshiping God and preaching His word. But this is not to say that Christians should become gloomy asocial grouches! --Hank |
