Bible Note: Hi sniper, Thank you for your work here, and the Scripture references. I hope that you will not mind my giving my interpretation for each of them. Matthew 28:19: When they saw Jesus as God they worshipped Him. I see the baptism of verse 19 as a spiritual baptism. I compare this verse with Acts 2:38 where they received the gift of the *holy *spirit and were called to Himself. When called to Him they observe all that He commanded them. Water baptism followed after they were saved. Mark 16:16: I see this as a spiritual baptism. Jesus baptized with the *holy *spirit; the words that the Lord Jesus had spoken to them. Now this Man is telling them to preach the good news and the word of truth and those who heard Him believed and were saved. Verse 17 is a spiritual baptism of speaking in tongues after they believed in His name. Acts 2:38: This is a spiritual baptism; believing in the name of Jesus Christ and receiving the gift of the *holy *spirit. That promised gift is for all who are called to Himself. Acts 2:41: This is water baptism AFTER the spiritual baptism and the receiving of Peter's words of the gospel. Acts 8:35,36: Here we see Philip preaching Jesus as Someone else, even God. The eunich sees water and asks if he can be baptized. Philip said in effect, believe and you can. The eunich said "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." I believe that especially now that His life is removed from the earth that we can know this Man Jesus Christ as the Spirit of God. Acts 8:38: After the expression of belief in Christ the eunuch was allowed to be baptized in water. Water baptism FOLLOWED spiritual baptism and faith in Jesus Christ. The eunuch was taught by Philip to not look for the water to save him, for it was by faith alone. Acts 9:17,18: Paul received from the Lord Jesus, (he saw the Righteous One and heard an utterance from Him) on the road to Damascus. He received his sight, was filled with the *holy *spirit. He was baptized AFTER he was told all the things that he would suffer for the name of the Lord Jesus. Later, in Acts 21:13 we learn that Paul was ready to die for the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 22:16: What a change we see in Paul. In Acts 9:14 we see him with authority from the chief priests to bind all who call upon the name of the Lord. Here in Acts 22:16 we see that Ananias had entreated Paul to call on that same name. This is the name of the Righteous One. It is the name of the Holy Spirit also as we try to understand the blend of this triune God. As we compare and contrast the baptism of Acts 9:18 and Acts 22:16 whether it is water or spirit, the thing we realize is that Paul called on the name of the Lord. He proclaimed Jesus, saying that "This One is the Son of God." Acts 22:18 says that many will not accept Paul's testimony about Him. If anyone is wondering whether Jesus was just a man or whether He is the Son of God, make your decision for Him. Declare Him as the Son of God and put your trust in Him alone to save you. But know God as Spirit also; this Man was "God with us". Call upon the name of the triune God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That is what is involved in a spiritual baptism in the word of God. Those are my interpretations so far. If you want me to complete my thoughts concerning the list I will be happy to talk at a later time. From the heart, Ray |
