Bible Question: when do children need to be baptized at what age? |
Bible Answer: love007, Think of all the new Testament "whole households" that were baptized in Acts. Nowhere are children mentioned as being excluded. What is the likelihood that all these were childless households? See Acts 2:38-39; 8:14-17; 16:15; 16:33; 19:1-16; 1 Cor 1:16; Col 2:11-12 in light of Genesis 17:9-14; Luke 2:21-32; Matt 19:14; John 15:16. In addition some of the earliest writings by Christians outside the New Testament give a clear historical record of infant baptism. Several centuries later a dispute arose among some Christians about infant baptism. Not about whether they should be baptised, that was understood as accepted, but rather whether it was necesary to wait until the eigth day since baptism was "the circumcision of Christ" (Col 2:11-12)and circumcision was done on the eigth day. You will get other opinions directly opposed to the one above, but the historical record is clear about the actual practice of the early Church. You will have to come to you own conclusion after weighing the arguments. Emmaus |
