Subject: Gifts Sometimes Fallible or Falacious |
Bible Note: Just to add a little balance, here: Regardless of where people fall on the issue of cessationism, we must understand that Peter, in saying that in the last days there would be visions and prophecies by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was not at all claiming such things would be infallible! Remember, there are tares as well as saints in the Church (Mat 13:30). There are works of the Holy Ghost (Gal 5:16) and there are "lying signs and wonders" to deceive (Mat 24:24). No genuine believer in the continuance of the Gifts of the Spirit, as Paul briefly enumerated them to Corinth, believes such gifts are infallible, and that any such verbal gift should be given the same absolute trust as the closed Canon. That is why Paul many times admonished us to "judge" everything. In Him, Doc |
