NASB | Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 19:5 After hearing this, they were baptized [again, this time] in the name of the Lord Jesus. |
Bible Question: Why did this happen? What is the purpose or stated reason? |
Bible Answer: Starting at verse one in Acts Chapter 19 you see Paul coming into the area, and he finds these disciples. He asks them if they have recieved the Holy Ghost yet, the same thing he recieved when hands were laid on him. The same thing the 120 recieved on the Day of Pentecost ( Acts 2:4) and they said they haven't even heard of it. He then finds out that they were baptized unto John, and so then the discourse leads to them being baptized in the name of Jesus, then Paul lays hands on them, and they recieve the Holy Ghost and speak in other tongues. They were baptized unto Jesus, because previously they had only know of John teaching about the Messiah that was to come. God Bless |
