NASB | Acts 18:17 And they all took hold of Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of the judgment seat. But Gallio was not concerned about any of these things. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 18:17 Then the Greeks all seized Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and began beating him right in front of the judgment seat; but Gallio paid no attention to any of this. [1 Cor 1:1] |
Bible Question (short): Is this the same Sosthenes? |
Question (full): Sosthenes became the ruler of the synagogue in Corinth after the former leader, Crispus, believed upon the Lord (Acts 18:8). Sosthenes seemed to be the leader of the Jews who rose up against Paul. Gallio refused to listen to the Jewish charges against Paul because God had promised Paul protection (Acts 18:9-10). The angry Gentiles believers gave Sosthenes a beating as Gallio looked the other way. Is this the same Sosthenes that Paul later calls "his brother" in 1Cor 1:1?. thanks, retxar |
