Bible Question:
Acts 17:23, NKJ, "for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you." The Interlinear Greek-English New Testament, Jay P. Green, Sr. editor has "This (One) I announce you." So my question is, "Do you know this One?" Acts 2:36, "This (Jesus) whom you crucified." Acts 17:3, "This (Jesus) whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ." Acts 17:23, "This (One) I proclaim to you." The parentheses are mine for comparison/contrast. From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: Greetings Ray! The NKJV translation is unique in that it states, "..the One whom you worship without knowing.." All of the other translations that I have 'surveyed' have "therefore what you worship in ignorance.." I actually believe that the NKJV has a much clearer rendition of Acts 17:23, and I favor it here in Acts 17:23 over and above any other English rendition! :-) You have made an expert observation in associating Acts 2:36 and 17:3 with the way that the NKJV renders this verse (17:23)! Great post! - Makarios |
