Bible Question:
Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household. NKJV The chapter is referencing the time when Paul was in prison and the there was a quake that caused the doors to open and the guards are worried and Paul told them to "believe." I know the promise of salvation is to all people and whoever believes will be saved. I would like input regarding "you and your household." Since many household have unsaved loved ones, I am reading this to mean they are protected from the devil's weapons while they are in the household. Not a guarantee that the loved one will accept the free gift of salvation. I am sure many loved ones of Christians have passed away rejecting Christ. |
Bible Answer: Lisa, I think you need to see Act s 16:31 in the context 16:30-34. The question. "What must I do to be saved." The answer. "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you and your household will be saved." The detailed answer. "They spoke the word of the Lord to him and everyone in his household." The response. "He and all his family were baptized at once... and with his household rejoiced at having come to faith in God" Looks like the family came "to faith in God." No indication of unbelievers here, although the point you are making can be seen in 1 Corinthians 7:12-16. Emmaus |
