Bible Question:
How could David be considered a man after God's own heart if he committed adultery during most part of his life? Matthew 19:9 "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." David, in conformity with the usage of eastern kings, but in opposition to Deut. 17:17, multiplied wives to himself besides Abigail, Ahinoam, and Michal: Maachah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur, whom probably he took in his raid (1 Sam. 27:8), Haggith, Abital, Eglah 1 Kings 15:5 because David did what was right in the sight of the LORD, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the case of Uriah the Hittite. Revelation 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star." Why does the Bible give so much importance for an adulterer? Is adultery sin or not? Imagine a pastor or any other member of a church with two wives. Finder |
Bible Answer: Because the Lord God knew that David would in due time repent, for what he had done, and this is shown to be the case as Psalm 51 reveals. Raeading Psalm 51 shows us that no matter how much we have sinned, it is never so great that God will not forgive the truly repentant sinner. I know, He forgave me, I was almost 30 years old, and you can have no idea of the enormity of my sin, before He saved me. I thought "I had gone too far, and had done too much that I knew to be wrong for God to forgive me", however, He showed me that despite the enormity of my sin, He still loved me, and I was unable to resist any longer, and was overjoyed to receive His salvation. |
