Bible Question (short): Cornelius not saved when Spirit fell. |
Question (full): Notice the spirit fell on them just as it did on "us"(the 12 apostles)at the beginning. Not as it came on the 3,000, or on lydia, or on the eunich, or on the 5,000, or the jailer, but on "us" at pentecost. John 20:22 states He breathed on them and said "receive the holy spirit". Now for sure the apostles were saved and had the spirit. They didn't receive it at pentecost to get saved,(they already were saved), but in order to speak in tongues. When Cornelius had the Spirit come on him, it wasn't to save him but to show the others that the gospel could be preached to Gentiles as well (that was the whole point of Peter's dream, to show that God would grant even Gentiles the opportunity to repent and be saved). When the spirit caused John the Baptist to leap in his mothers womb, did that save him? When the holy spiriit caused Elizabeth to say "blessed are you Mary among women", did that save her? When the donkey in the old testament was filled with the spirit and spoke, was it now saved? No, these were all simply workings of the spirit. Notice in verse 11:15 of Acts the Spirit came on them as Peter "began" to speak. Surely they could not be saved prior to hearing the message and then beleiving and repenting. |
