Bible Question:
We are offered three choices in interpreting this verse. I would like to offer my personal choice and hear your comments and Scriptures. 1) NASB, Amplified, "Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him, and He is the one who is talking with you." 2) NKJ, "And Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you."" 3) HCSB, "Jesus answered, "You have both seen Him and He is the One speaking with you."" I am not familiar with the HCSB, Holman Christian Standard yet, having just purchased the Gospels this past month. However, for this verse I would agree with that version, #3 above. (And yet, I would not agree with the lack of capitalization for John 9:33, for instance). I believe that we can compare/contrast John 9:37 here with John 10:33, NKJ, "The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God." What Scriptures come to mind for you? From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: John 10:33, NKJ, "The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God." Capitalizing pronouns relating to God makes for some strange reading where people were addressing Jesus with anything but respect. It seems rather awkward to translate quotations of people who were deriding Jesus Christ, and who at that point didn't believe that He was the spotless Son of God, capitalizing the pronouns they used to refer to Him. |
