Bible Question: does God punish other people in your family for your sins |
Bible Answer: Hi grantathome24, We are called to be our brother's keeper. So if there are others in my family who know the Lord and who stand by idly while knowing that I am sinning, they too sin by not doing what they should do. HAVING SAID THAT, though, there are several examples in the Old Testament (especially in the life of David) of the innocent suffering for the sins of another. And yet, in John 9:1-3, Jesus is asked this same question and gives an intriguing reply. Getting down to the heart of the matter, perhaps the point we should be focussing on is to live a holy life. We either get the just rewards for the way we life our lives now or in the final day or reckoning. So in any case, let's keep from sinning. And when things happen, if we know we've done wrong, then let us turn to God in repentance and receive forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 shows us the way. |
