Bible Question: Where in the N.T. can I find Jesus Christ demonstrating the gift of discernment |
Bible Answer: Hi Maryellen, Welcome to the StudyBibleForum! There are a couple of passages that come to mind, perhaps others will have more. John 2:24 "But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men, 25 and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man." This tells us that Jesus had discernment. In John 8, I think we see that discernment in operation. In verse 15 "You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone." Jesus knew their judgment was not spiritual, but was fleshly. In verse 37 "I know that you are Abraham's descendants; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you." Jesus knew they wanted to kill Him. In verse 44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies." Jesus knew their desires were of the devil. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
