Bible Question:
King James Version: John 8:35, "And the servant abideth not in the house forever; but the Son [sic] abides forever." In the past I have gone with this version, but am now reconsidering the passage and going with lower case "son". The NASB has "the son" and the NKJ has "a son". What is the difference between a "son" and the "Son"? From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: Ray, In John 8:31-47, Jesus is speaking about the difference between free men and slaves. It is like the difference between those who are under the Law and those that are in the family by grace and sons by adoptions. See v 34 "slaves to sin" and then see where the "Sone" (Jesus) sets you free and you too are free like the true "Son" of God as opposed to a son of Satan (v.38-41,41) See Paul in Romans about our adoption whereby we becomes sons rather than slaves to sin and Satan.
