Bible Question: What happened to the man ? Did he get off Scot free ? Any theories onthis ? |
Bible Answer: Hi Twinkle, It is unfortunate that the man was not brought along with the woman to Jesus. If he was allowed to live by the good ole boys, then he was allowed to be free to keep on sinning, being apart from Christ. If they had brought him also as a sinner to Christ then he could have along with the woman found freedom in Christ to go on living, but to be free from sin. The woman was expected by Jesus to be free FROM sin but the man was free IN sin. Did the men do him any favor? I would say not. It appears to me that the men saw the law of Moses as speaking only of the women. Both of the marginal references for this verse state however that both the man and woman should be put to death. Leviticus 20:10, "If there is a man who commits adultery with another man's wife, one who commits adultery with his friend's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death." Deuteronomy 22:22, "If a man is found lying with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel." Galatians 3:22, "But the Scripture has shul up all men [Lit. things] under sin, that the promise of faith in Jesus (Christ) might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith." There is salvation (and freedom) in no other. Now a *Mediator is not for one party only; whereas God/ is only one. See Galatians 3:20 From the heart, Ray |
