Bible Question: What causes doubts? |
Bible Answer: I feel that doubt is the opposite of belief, just as lies are the opposite of truth. Belief and truth are of God; doubt and lies are of Satan. Just as Satan continues to battle against God in the lives of Christians, our doubts are at war with our beliefs. Doubts such as are we truly saved, is God real, and are His promises true are all from Satan, the father of lies. When our faith (our belief)weakens, our doubts become stronger. The Gospel of John is the best antidote when doubts creep in. When I start to feel doubts about my faith, I think about what Peter said when Jesus asked if the Twelve would leave also. Peter said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." (John 6:68) Even in the face of doubt, realizing I have nowhere else to go always drives me back to the throne of His grace and mercy and love. |
