Bible Question: How do we eat his flesh and drink his blood? |
Bible Answer: Nana Faye, this is not literal, tho some believe and practice it. The surronding context begins in verse 25, or maybe verse 16 ... or even the beiginning of the chapter. The issue of bread is woven tho this passage. Jesus said He was the bread of life (vs 35), then He says He was the living bread and the bread is His flesh (vs 51). Next He introduces the drinking of blood (vs 53). This is something that the Jews would never do. This was hard to accept (vs 66), so Jesus explained the words are spirit and life (vs 63). Rememeber that John is the only Gospel writer that does not record the Last (Lord's) Supper. This may be a preamble to that event. Hope this helps, Steve |
