Bible Question: I was wondering in John 6:39-40 what is Jesus referring to when He says I will raise them up at the last day? And then He repeats in verse 40. Could you please explain who and when. What is the last day? He is referring to. The reason I ask is because I believe scripture confirms when we die our Spirits go directly to heaven to be with the Father. Thank you in advance,Terri |
Bible Answer: Joh 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 39. Torrey Joh 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The saints are promised from ancient times that we will have a redemption of the body. So what Jesus is referring to is the Bodily resurrection of the saints. When we die now our spirit goes to be with Christ. But in the last day (a time period called the Day of the Lord) saints will have thier bodies raised and glorified as eternal bodies. So that in your current limited understanding you could say they are spiritual bodies, but not spirit only. We have a body and we have a spirit. Now our bodies are corruptible but then they will be raise incorruptible. There is a time period between going to be with the Lord now and getting our glorified bodies. There are plenty of scripture for this. I will post them if you would like. |
