NASB | John 5:31 ¶ "If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 5:31 ¶ "If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not valid. |
Bible Question: Could someone please explain how this verse compares to Jesus statement in John 8:14 "Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going." How is one testimony true and the other "not true"? |
Bible Answer: Hi Momma, That's a good question! I understand John 5:31 to be true according to the Law: Deut 17:6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. A single witness was not to be accepted. But in reality, Jesus' witness of Himself is true, because He is the Son of God. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
