Bible Question: Were the 12 disciples water baptized? I would like to know if it is absolutely necessary to be water baptized to mature and live a Christian life with power. |
Bible Answer: wwJdlc, The 12 disciples were water baptized. They baptized others (John 4:1-2, Matt 28:19). It is not absolutely necessary to be water baptized to mature and live a Christian life with power. You are baptized inwardly by the Holy Spirit at conversion (Acts 10:47, Rom 6:3-4, 1 Cor 12:13). Water baptism is an outward sign of this. There are people who have been baptized by water, who are spiritual babes. Maturity is based on is pressing toward the mark (Phi 3:14-15) constant use of solid food (Heb 5:14) and knowledge of the Son of God (Eph 4:13). We need to study His word (2 Tim 2:15). It takes desire to be mature. We are empowered by Him (Acts 1:8; Rom 15:13; 2 Cor 6:7, 12:9; Eph 1:19, 3:16ff, 6:10) ... but, do we tap into that power? There are other passages on both maturity and power, but I hope this helps, Searcher |
