Bible Question: What does Jesus mean that river of living water will come out of the believer? |
Bible Answer: In John 4:15 "Jesus is speaking of the life and vitality of the spirit (John 7:38-39). Several prophetic texts depict the blessings of the Lord as life giving "water"(Isa 12:3; 44:3; Ezek 47:1-12; Zech 14:8) Christian tradition assocites living waters with baptismal waters, which lead us to "eternal life" (John 4:14). Paul in fact, describes baptism in terms of drinking from the Spirit (1 Cor 12:13)" from the footnote on John 4:15 in the Ignatius Study Bible: The Gospel of John |
