Bible Question: If the Samaritan woman wasnt a Jew, how could Jacob be her ancestor? (John 4:12) |
Bible Answer: Dear Lynnette, Welcome to the forum! The Samaritans are supposed to be descendants of half-tribes Ephraim and Manasseh (the sons of Joseph). They were not taken in the captivity -- many of the poor were left behind by the Babylonians. The Samaritans beliefs gradually became dissimilar from that of the Jews. From the time of the return from exile, the two groups were frequently at odds, often violently. The well was either dug by Jacob or was owned by him. We do not know with certainty. In Him, Doc |
