Bible Question: what is born again? |
Bible Answer: Dear jun barbara, I, also, welcome you to the forum! The phrase "born again" comes from John 3:3 and 7. Peter also uses it in 1 Peter 1:23. In common usage it simply means to be saved. However, the Bible is a bit more particular in how it uses the term. Often the term regeneration is used; meaning, very simply, another birth. The rebirth is a mysterious work of the Holy Spirit (John 3:5-8) when He brings about a spiritual change in a person's heart. The inherent sinful nature of the person is transformed, enabling the person to willfully respond to God in faith, and live in compliance to His will (Matthew 19:28; John 3:3, 5, 7; Titus 3:5). Regeneration originates entirely with God, not with men (John 1:12-13; 1 John 2:29; 5:1, 4). It has an impact that extends to every part of a person, effecting the desires, the mind, the will, and even the basic nature. Note that being born again always results in the visible evidence of a changed life. In Him, Doc |
