Subject: Is Jesus the Arc Angel Michael? |
Bible Note: Texasshirley may be bringing this up because Michael is the only known Archangel (Jude 9). The word "Archangel" simply means "chief messenger." Some have noticed that (1) Christ is the Word (i.e., the chief messenger, see Heb 1:2) and (2) the acts of Michael could rightfully be associated with the acts of our Lord Jesus. Therefore, they conclude that Michael could be another designation for our Lord. I do not find this belief commonly held in orthodox circles. However, it should be noted that even the word "angel" has connotations beyond the simple translation of the word as "messenger." In some places (particularly the OT) the meaning of names can be interchanged with the name itself. I thought that perhaps this might be interesting to some folks. Nothing to be dogmatic about, I don't think. (Unless one is making the impossible leap that Russelists do... but by then, you're a million light-years off course already!) In HIm, Doc |
