Bible Question: What is love in regards to the bible |
Bible Answer: Dear Miss Lady -- Since your question seems to be rather general in nature, my answer will follow the same pattern. The Bible recognizes various kinds of love directed toward various objects, animate and inanimate. There is the love of God for man and man for God. There is love of man for mankind (brotherly love), love of spouse and family, love of friends and love of enemies. There is love of righteousness and love of evil. And love of self. The Bible tells (in John 3:16) to how great an extent God loved the world. He gave His only begotten Son so whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life..... Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep my commandments (John 14:15) and He also commanded "Love your enemies" (Matt. 5:44). Among faith, hope, and love, Paul declared love the greatest (1 Cor. 13:13) and John described God as being love (1 John 4:8). This may not have touched directly on your question, but nevertheless the passages of Scripture I've cited are well worth knowing. --Hank |
