Bible Question: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO *BELIEVE* IN JESUS CHRIST? Are we talking about mental assent to a set of facts? Or a warm fuzzy feeling when you pray or think about Jesus? Or a belief that Jesus existed, as did George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, etc.? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO *BELIEVE* IN JESUS CHRIST? |
Bible Answer: Some one gave the answer as follows: “The word "believe" here is from the Greek word "pisteuo". It is used 109 times in the New Testament(KJV).It means to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by implication, to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being to Christ)" Technically this is right but does not express the real menaing of this word. "Pisteuo" means to be dependant upon. To stake your life on this belief. The Apostles set the example and lived a life the shows the true meaning of this word. Each and everyone of the Apostles was willing to die unquestioningly for what they held to be true. That is believing in Christ. Doing or saying anything less cheapens the meaning of the word. Ed |
