Bible Question: When John says "the disciple whom Jesus loved" who is he refering to? I am a new Christian and I was told it represents all Christians and also that it refers to John himself. What is correct? |
Bible Answer: jswife I believe John wrote this way in humility referring to himself. There is not exclusivity in the statement, meaning it does not say the "only" disciple Jesus loved. Which is what we have the tendency to read in to it. John was just calling himself, what in fact he was, loved by Jesus, just as everyone of us today are. So yes the statement does refer to John but also to everyone that know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. EdB |
