AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 20:7 and the [burial] face-cloth which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the [other] linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself. |
Bible Question:
why was the face-cloth lying aside rolled up? |
Bible Answer: If you look at the King James version on the Bible, you will see that the 'face-cloth' is actually called a 'napkin' and this has a very important meaning. In the times of Jesus it was customary for a person to crumple their napkin haphazardly and leave it on their plate if they enjoyed a meal and would like to return to the house they were visiting. If they were unhappy with the meal and company, and planned never to return to the home they would neatly fold the napkin beside their plate. The napkin Jesus wore on his head was neatly folded to the side signifying he would never return to that place or to death. |
