Subject: What do i say to someone about drinking |
Bible Note: That is true about the greek word Oinos...however it doesn't mean grape juice. The Strong Concordance refers it to the hebrew word "yayin" which does mean literally fermented..implying intoxication. Also when the Israelites couldn't take their tithes to the temple they were told to turn it in to money and spend it on whatever they chose...even strong drink (indicating an approval by God). See Deut 14:24-26. The bible states that money is the root of all evil..does that mean we ought to not have? Clearly not..it is about stewardship. Same thing with wine..what is your motive for drinking? Will you control it or will it control you? Take for instance 1st Timothy 3:8 Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or ADDICTED to much WINE or fond of sorbid gain. Now notice it did not say don't drink but do not become addicted. Again it is a matter of control and responsibility. We all know the dangers of drinking too much..it leads to drunkeness. We all know the dangers of eating to much (glutony) we gain too much weight and die of heart failure, etc. So do we stop eating? No, we watch what we eat and take care of our selves. Whatever we do, do it with responsibility and be mindful of who is watching. |
