Bible Question: In John 2:4 does Jesus rebuke His mother in this passage? And if it is a rebuke, what is His purpose for the rebuke? |
Bible Answer: Dear Brazos, It was not a rebuke. Using the term "woman" was a common form of respect at that time. Jesus uses it again in John 19:26. The rest of the expression was not a rebuke, but was probably said with a great deal of tenderness. Some believe this might have meant, "What business is this to us?"
