Bible Note: Looking back at the record of Peter's life bears up the proposition that Peter came through the sifting with a strengthening of His faith. During the trial he was going through, the denial of a friend that he loved so he may save his own life, fearing persecution by the religous. I'm sure satan was having a field day with fear. I mean what would have happened to him if he had not denied that he was with Jesus? Jesus was confirming who he was by telling Peter that even though he said he was willing to die for Jesus when push came to shove he would deny he even knew him not once but three times before the cock crowed. Peter had a revelation from God concerning who Jesus was but in the next sentence received a rebuke from Jesus for speaking what satan had spoken through him. What we see is that we are not Jesus. Even though we may profess to beleive God it is not until the time of trial that we must put up or shut up. How have you fared in your trials? I have had to repeat a few and will probably repeat more in the future. Peter was sifted but Peter became deeper in faith, stronger in faith, because of the trials of the days after Jesus crucifixion. I don't think we can look at the trial Peter was going through as being over until his discussion with Jesus on the shore of the lake. Do you love me? That is the qwuestion that Jesus asks us. In my heart is where the answer lies. Even with the repeated denials of being with Jesus and knowing Jesus do you think he stopped loving Jesus? Could it be that, that is how we deny Him? By losing our love for Him. Is that what is meant in Heb. 6:4 through Heb. 6:8 (NASB) 4For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. 7For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; 8but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned. How can we partake of Jesus and His divine nature and still lose our love for Him. What a heart of stone that would be. Just meditating out loud. |
