Bible Note: Let's ponder this a bit . . . Did Peter pass the test? Yes, he confessed Christ ("You are the Christ" Mt 16:16) Was he found of faith after he was sifted? (Lord I believe, help my unbelief!) Well, he was told ahead of time that he would deny the Lord, but it was not until after the denial that he recognized what he had done - I suspect that this was used to bring him into a deeper realization of his need for the Savior. Yes, sifting is a good thing. God can use anything or anyone for HIS purposes! (Romans 8:28) Recognition is the key. A while back the Lord gave me these words: recognize, respond (repent), receive (righteousness) What was the experience of "sifting?" Was it his denial of Christ? After his confession of WHO Jesus is, and then to deny Him seems incredulous . . . but do we not do the same? Is it that we, like Peter want to understand WHO the Lord is on our terms? And yet Peter's restoration by Jesus is so comforting, is it not? Yes, to know that the Lord has included US in His prayer is a powerful truth. See Mt 10:32-33 - Since Peter confessed Jesus first, did this secure His position? For Jesus said that anyone who denied him before men, He would deny before His Father. Comments? |
