NASB | John 19:31 ¶ Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 19:31 ¶ Since it was the day of Preparation [for the Sabbath], in order to prevent the bodies from hanging on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high holy day) the Jews asked Pilate to have their legs broken [to hasten death] and the bodies taken away. |
Bible Question:
If the Sabbath day was on a Saturday, How could Jesus have been in the grave for 3 days? Is it possible that he may have died and been buried on a Wednsday instead? Help!!! |
Bible Answer: Yes I'm looking for the scripture But the bible says that he died in the midst of the week. If you know anything about Passover and the feast of Unleavenbread you'll find out that the lamb had to be killed in the midst of the week. And Jesus was the the lamb to take away the sins of the world. That why a bone couldn't be broken. |
