Bible Question: What would be a detailed version of Jesus's statement "it is finished?" |
Bible Answer: Hello Mss Z, My understanding of the verse of John 19:30 tells us that not only had Jesus proved his own integrity but he had succeeded in laying the basis for the salvation of mankind—and more important, the vindication of his God's sovereignty! I understand that that is in fact the theme of the Bible. Jehovah God's allowing mankind to suffer demonstrates man's inability to govern himself, the issue of which Satan instigated with Eve when he told her that if she ate of the fruit that she would become like God, knowing good and bad. In other words, deciding on her own what was "right" and what was "wrong". Satan’s rebellion raised the issue of the rightness of God’s sovereignty over all His creatures, of Jehovah’s right to require their full obedience. Jesus proved Satan a lier and we too can show that God has the right to tell us what's right and wrong and demonstrate that we support his sovereignty by obeying him. Tara1 |
