Bible Question: Who is the "he" referencing in this verse? What was Pilate's sin and why is this sin considered greater than Pilate's? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Mommapbs! Truly, we are all sinners... but Jesus, who is God, has stated that there are some (or at least one) who will be held at greater accountability than the rest of humanity... Though many see this person as Judas (John 19:11), I suggest to you that it is not Judas--from what little we know about Judas we can perceive that he is not a dovote believer... at best he is at the outskirts of faith, placing greater importance on the temporal values than on Jesus' revelation of His Divinity and the true Purpose of His incarnation... Now, there is a person who, through his office, demonstrated that he was representing God and God's interests as he used his authority to persuade others to follow his lead: Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. "What are we accomplishing?" they asked. "Here is this man performing many miraculous signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation." Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, "You know nothing at all! You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish." He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one. So from that day on they plotted to take his life. (John 11:47-53) Being the high priest, Caiaphas had the responsibility of searching Scripture for the truth about Jesus and of commanding a fair hearing to determine Jesus' guilt/innocence... Instead, he sealed Jesus' fate and set in motion the plan to rid themselves of the stone that had began to make them shake and stumble (Romans 9:32-33). Though Judas betrayed Jesus, he did not do so while officiating on behalf of God--Caiaphas, who claimed to be the deposit of authority and knowledge did! God Bless! Angel |
